Date Night Recap: The Wade Bryant Couples’ Stretching Event

Marriage is hard and if anyone tells you otherwise, please ask them to provide you with the location where their book can be purchased. I am going to need that. In the spirit of attempting to keep things fresh, twirl in the depths of intimacy, and just get outside – we indulged in the Wade Bryant Couples’ Stretching event.

Discovering Wade Bryant

While scrolling Instagram, I noticed several ads for this couples stretching event hosted by Wade Bryant. The video snippets were intriguing to say the least. Some may clutch their pearls, while others are more like ‘sign me up’. As you can safely assume from the title of this post. We were in the latter group.

The contortions, intimacy, bonding, bodies supporting bodies, and a host who shares an avatar near and dear to my heart – big, black man – all drew me in. Unlike many of my tasks as a recovering procrastinator; we purchased the tickets roughly a month in advance. We had something to look forward to.

The Date

Remember when I said that marriage is hard? After working all day, preparation for this date required arranging childcare, dropping off children, and picking them up afterwards. Thankfully, we did not have to get dressed up. Huge plus! Athletic wear for the win!

In the couples stretching session, each couple shared a single mat. This promoted closeness, sharing, intimacy, and unity. After sharing his personal story and how he started offering his sessions, Wade Bryant asked each couple to share how they discovered the event, names, relationship status, and duration. This was especially heartfelt because we were able to celebrate and share in the love and commitment of others.

After numerous mutually beneficial and shared stretching exercises, sweat, and laughter, the session concluded with each couple sitting face-to-face expressing sentiments of love to one another. I am a sucker for words, but when they are expressed face-to-face, eyeball-to-eyeball; I’m done.

A Reflection

There were a number of lessons learned, confirmations, moments of pause, and appreciation gained from this session:

  • My husband is way more flexible than I thought.
  • Push yourself.
  • Give yourself permission to try.
  • Never judge a book by its cover.
  • Intimacy is everything!

Without spoiling the experience for others, I will say that his musical selections were perfect for me. I was inspired by and appreciated his vulnerability as he shared his story with us.

Wade Bryant, thank you for curating such a wonderful space for couples to engage in a unique form of intimacy. I wish you continued success in all that you do. Thank you!

Peace and Love.
