No Resolutions – I’m Just Embracing Me

The month of January is one filled with hope, renewal and the infamous resolutions. Here we are two days into the new year and let me ask you this – “Have you broken your resolution yet, Sis?” Right. Yeah, I know…

So, why do we do it to ourselves every year? Oh wait, have you failed so miserably at this resolution thing that you are adopting this popular motto: “I don’t make resolutions!” Yes, I know…I know…Why not, though? We have a new set of 12 months, 365 days and  8,760 hours to optimize.

Have you ever taken a moment to ask yourself why you fail so miserably during resolution season? Well, I have and I came up with these three reasons:

  1. I’m not being real with myself.
  2. My resolutions sound nice.
  3. I put little to no thought behind these resolutions.

It’s time for a change. In 2019 I am not stating resolutions. I am setting realistic, manageable and specific goals that can be achieved in this calendar year. These goals will also set me up to achieve the broader and more lofty resolution-like hoop dreams I hope to ultimately achieve. So, what’s this all about you ask?

Look, I am tired of setting myself up for failure. I am in a mental space where I am ready for change. The shift is real, honey! I cannot make this shift up!

Be Real with Myself

During the month of January, I will be focusing on embracing the woman I have been, am becoming and strive to be. I am going to love on myself something serious.

I will also be real with myself about what I am capable of in a single year. Negative self-talk will be limited. I just cannot walk around lying to myself about what I am going to do. That’s so silly.

Theme of the Month: JEM – Just Embracing Me

This is a play on words. Think precious gems. We are gems and I am just embracing my shimmery, high value, rare and healing self – you know…like a gem. This act of embracing will be all about affirming and appreciating who I am (and who I am not). This process will set me up beautifully as I work to craft those lovely and thoughtful goals.

Song of the Month: Focus by H.E.R.

This song can be interpreted in so many ways that I just have to pay some respect to H.E.R. It’s just so appropriate for this month. Press play.

Set Goals – not resolutions

Resolutions are so broad and let’s be honest – wishful thinking in many instances. It’s time to set goals! These goals should be specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time-sensitive (SMART). I must be able to check something off, honey!

This month is all about just embracing me.

Peace and Love.
